Karen Smith OTR/L, CDRS
Founder & Program Director

Ms. Smith is a licensed Occupational Therapist, Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist, and Licensed Driving Instructor. She has been performing driving evaluations since 1994 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ms. Smith has considerable experience in neurologic and orthopedic rehabilitation, helping people recover their independence after a variety of diagnoses including stroke, Parkinson's Disease, joint replacements, fractures, multiple sclerosis and dementia/Alzheimer's. She has also worked with children with neurological and orthopedic disorders including spina bifida, osteogenisis imperfecta, muscular dystrophy, Asperger's and autism.

Ms. Smith lectures on the driving evaluation process and on helping senior drivers stay on the road at a variety of community venues in the North Bay, including Dominican University, North Bay Chapter of Neuropsychologists, and elder support groups. ​In addition to her driving rehabilitation practice, she is a co-owner of Redwood Pediatric Therapy Associates in Santa Rosa.

Erin Betty, MS, OTR/L, DRS
Driving Rehabilitation Therapist

Erin Betty is a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist and Driving Rehabilitation Specialist. Erin provides assessment and training services to licensed and learner drivers that have medical conditions that may affect their ability to drive.

Erin brings her experience working with adults and children in a variety of settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, home health, and schools to driver rehabilitation. She has worked with people with diagnoses including stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, limb amputation, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive impairment. In addition to her work in the driving rehabilitation program, Erin continues to work in home health adult rehabilitation.

Miriam Monahan OTD, OTR/L, CDRS
Driving Rehabilitation Therapist

Dr. Monahan is a licensed Occupational Therapist, Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist, and Licensed Driving School Instructor.  She has been practicing in the field of driver rehabilitation since 1998 in a variety of settings including hospitals, private practice, and research. 

Dr. Monahan is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of cognition and driving, with an emphasis on autism and driving. In addition to her clinical practice, she lectures and consults extensively on the topic of driver rehabilitation, both locally and internationally to medical professionals, law enforcement, educational institutions and others. She has (co)authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters on various aspects of driver rehabilitation.
